    Thumbnail

    Abstract
    • Biodiversity in rivers and wetlands is very seriously at risk as evident from the fact that 63% of freshwater fish species in South Africa, 42% of those in Europe and 27% of those in North America have become extinct, threatened or endangered. However, in terms of protection initiatives, rivers and wetlands have been critically neglected.
