dc.description.abstractCatch and effort data from the river fisheries of the Peruvian part of Amazonia are presented, and used to fit a Schaefer-type surplus production model. This suggests that present effort is in excess of what is required to generate Maximum Sustainable Yield, and that and increase in effort would actually reduce catches.
