Growth, mortality and recruitment of commercially important fishes and penaeid shrimps in Indonesian waters

    Thumbnail

    Abstract
    • Estimates of von Bertalanffy growth parameters were derived through application of the ELEFAN I program to lengthfrequency data from 52 stocks and 36 species of commercially important bony fishes from Indonesian waters, and to 9 different cohorts of a stock of penaeid shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis) from the Arafura Sea. Derived quantities such as total, natural and fishing mortality estimates, as well as selection and recruitment patterns were then obtained by application of the ELEFAN II program to these same length-frequency data. Some generalizations on the status of the stocks included are presented, notably on the demersal fishes off the north coast of Java, and on P. merguiensis in the Arafura Sea.
