The objectives of the workshop were designed to place emphasis on applications. It was perceived that the fisheries are at present so intense and the available information so limited, that a special effort should be made to develop from present understandings a set of tools for rough and ready action, now. Awaiting the development of much more sophisticated under¬standing before making commitments to particular approaches was not seen as a prudent course of action.
