The proposal to transfer Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) to Nigeria is characterized by a
number of risk management measures that WorldFish has already implemented. WorldFish has also proposed additional biosecurity measures in its transfer plan and in the draft of a prospectus for transfer risk management. This document recommends additional risk management measures that will help to ensure a low risk of pathogen introduction. While there are a number of serious pathogens of Nile tilapia, the history of the GIFT stock, the risk management measures that WorldFish has already implemented or will implement, and the additional measures proposed in this document are sufficient to remove all of these pathogens from consideration as potential hazards.
