Integrated rice-fish farming in Mali has been practiced by the farmers in the irrigated area since
the late 1980s, with the introduction of wild fish into the system. Rice-fish farming is seen as an environmentally friendly alternative to the rice monoculture, which provides benefit to the environment, income, and human nutrition.
