The European Commission awarded a €2.5 million grant to WorldFish under the DESIRA program for the project “Introducing Circularity Through Climate Smart Aquaculture in Bangladesh” (Artemia4Bangladesh). Implemented from March 2020 to July 2024 in Cox’s Bazar, this initiative aimed to boost agricultural and food systems by improving salt and aquaculture productivity. The project supported 302 partnerships, including government bodies, NGOs, private firms, and farmers. It introduced ten integrated Artemia-aquaculture technologies, leading to increased income and sustainable practices for over 3,000 farmers. Gender-focused activities engaged women in aquaculture and nutrition, while 239 training events reached over 7,600 participants. Future recommendations include enhancing Artemia management, market access, and awareness of its nutritional benefits, improving hatchery practices, and integrating solar energy for sustainable growth.
