Fish and other aquatic foods (fresh and processed) comprise a significant portion of the animal-sourced food in Myanmar diets. They provide essential nutrients necessary for human growth and development, especially in the first 1000 days of life--a critical period before the child reaches 2 years of age. However, fish handling and food safety practices are poor which poses health risks as well as reduced incomes for supply chain actors. The brief highlights the fish handling practices among fresh vendors in selected areas in Myanmar.
