The findings of our study provide evidence of indiscriminate use of antimicrobials and aquamedicines in fish farming systems in Bangladesh, with 341 aquamedicines obtained in the studied areas. Both input shops and farmers are actively involved in the distribution and application of Highly Important Antimicrobials (HIAs) and Critically Important Antimicrobials (CIAs). Of particular concern is the indiscriminate use of off-label veterinary antibiotics for treating diseases in aquatic species. Products associated with veterinary medicine - including antiparasitics, antifungal, biocides, growth promoters, and feed supplements - are being repurposed for use in aquatic species. Stricter regulation and vigilant monitoring of antimicrobials and aquamedicines usage in aquaculture are essential to ensure responsible practices.en_US
