Community Fish Refuges (CFRs) in Cambodia help combat declining wild fish stocks caused by climate change and other factors, benefiting millions who depend on fisheries for food and income. Managed by elected community committees with support from government authorities and organizations like WorldFish, CFRs enhance fish populations in seasonally flooded rice fields. Committees handle water quality, illegal fishing prevention, and community engagement, encouraging strong female representation. Effective CFR management involves strategic planning, resource mobilization, transparent bookkeeping, and collaboration with stakeholders. CFRs improve food security, water management, and community empowerment, fostering leadership development and knowledge sharing through exchange visits and meetings.
