Blue Guards are trained and motivated local youth volunteers engaged by USAID’s ECOFISH II Activity. In the coastal areas. 140 Blue Guards are working at 10 locations covering Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Moheshkhali, Kutubdia, Ukhiya, Teknaf, Kalapara and Charfasson Upazilas. They are campaigning twice a month to reduce plastic pollution and biodiversity loss by discarded nets. So far, the Blue Guards have removed about 24 metric tons of plastics and discarded nets from the coastal areas to safer garbage dumping areas or connected to the plastic recycler, wherever feasible.
