The leaflet ‘Seed Transportation of Small Indigenous Species’ has been developed under the CGIAR Initiative on Asian Mega-Deltas. This informative guide provides step-by-step protocols for packaging and transporting small indigenous species (SIS) fish seeds, such as mola, punti, and tengara, from hatcheries to nurseries and from nurseries to grow-out ponds. The leaflet covers key practices including spawn collection in hatcheries, packaging and transportation of spawn, fry collection from nursery ponds, and the subsequent packaging and transportation to grow-out ponds. It also emphasizes the importance of proper acclimatization of fry in stocking ponds to ensure high survival rates and productivity. By following these protocols, hatcheries and farmers can contribute to the expansion of nutrition-sensitive aquaculture and strengthen food security initiatives.
